Their exact color and mottled color pattern are dependent on their specific species. Adults grow to between 1/8th and 3/16th of an inch in length. Beetle larvae are about ¼ of an inch in length, and have a tapered, carrot-like shape. These pests are brown in color with lighter-colored stripes and bristles covering their bodies.

Lastly, adult beetles can also find their way into homes inside potted plants that are brought indoors after spending time outside.

Inside homes, beetle larvae are found living on the floor around baseboards, in closets, in basement areas, inside cardboard boxes, beneath upholstered furniture, and underneath carpeting. Adults lay their eggs inside pantry items, and both eggs and larvae can be found inside cereals, flour, and rice products.
